The photography was done by photographer Jasper Suyk under art direction of Kees Kok and Jorn Satter. The shoot was spread over two days with all the girls shot individually and later composited in the different promotional images. I was a consultant at the shoot to oversee if poses would match and was sometimes a stand in model during the shoot as a point of reference. film maker Esmée van Loon which resulted in the documentary film “Mama”, telling the story of the drag house, it’s members and the importance of (chosen) family. Mother of the house Ma’Ma Queen, whom I’ve known for almost a decade at this point asked me to shoot the poster visual for the movie as well as a portfolio of pictures of all the members of the house. promotional campaign for the first season of the reality tv show “Real Housewives of Amsterdam” broadcast on dutch streaming service Videoland I was asked to do the image compositing. Photography of the ladies was done by photographer Mark Engelen under art direction by Florian Lie-Hap-Po. They were shot seperately and later combined by me in a key visual which was used as the main promotional image as well as solo posters and a combination image. We shot a portfolio of images where we combined elements from Boris’ male and female sides, the military commando side and his drag alter ego. A clash in camouflage, combat boots, acrilyc nails and make-up. Rob Jacobs https://robjacobs.nl/L-HOMO-Juicy-Weekend L’HOMO JUICY WEEKEND || One of the biggest, most high profile gay magazine’s is L’HOMO, an annual special edition of LINDA magazine specifically focused on the LGBTQ+ community. They have their own instagram account and each weekend they ask someone within the community to do a takeover of their insta stories, called “The Juicy Weekend”. I was asked to do the juicy weekend in september and I immediately had an idea. I wanted to do a shoot with two models as I usually do , but I also wanted to offer followers a chance to be photographed by me. I often get feedback that the models on my insta profile are normally white and have very fit bodies. I wanted to give everyone a chance to experience a photoshoot and basically live their best life. So I posted a message with a link to a special website where people could sign up for a chance to win a shoot. From those submissions I picked 12 people at random who would then be shot, in my trademark neon style in the studio, providing their own wardrobe etc. The result was a group of people that covered a wide range of ages, races and gender diversity. Shooting them was a complete joy. It was a huge marathon project, but totally worth it. Rob Jacobs https://robjacobs.nl/Pieterbaasjes PIETERBAASJES || What some might not know is that the tradition of Santa Claus can be traced back to a dutch tradition called Sinterklaas, a bearded white man with a red outfit and hat who hands out presents to children for the occasion of his birthday on december 6th. For years he has been helped by so called Black Pete’s, who descend down the chimney to deliver the presents to the children from house to house in the middle of the night. The traditional look of Black Pete however has been a very controversial subject for many years, decades even as the look which stems back to the turn of the last century was inspired by blackface and racial stereotypes of black people. Over the years there have been many people protesting against the use of blackface, painted red lips and black afro wigs. There are also a lot of people who grew up with Black Pete and see it as an archetypal character without a racially motivated context, and they go to the extreme to defend the use of the character as is. I decided to share my two cents on the issue and show people an alternative to the look of Pete, who I also renamed Pieterbaasjes, where I got rid of all the visual elements that are connected to a specific race. The school is one of the most acclaimed in the country and offers students a lot of study profiles in the creative sector. We develloped a swirling vortex so to speak that sort of sucks you into the creative world, where along the way you come across elements that are part of the education. We made a general key visual, but also a range of keyvisuals for each specific education profile the school offers. In those key visuals we highlight a student, photographed in forced perspective, surrounded by elements and gear they would use at school and their field of business. recruitment campaign. With the tagline “The sweet spot for your career” we created a campaign where Cloetta’s brand products and it’s employee’s take center stage. I develloped the look and feel in storyboards and ultimately photographed the campaign and did the retouching for all the images.
